SOLEIL Dress - New Pattern From Selvage Designs
Happy Monday! So much going on this week! Today this new and fabulous MUST. HAVE. pattern. Tomorrow a crazy awesome giveaway that you don't want to miss. AND. It's KCW which I am REALLY hoping I'll be able to sew even a little bit for! Oh, and some more secret sewing is going on. I can't wait for mid April to be able to show you all!
I am kicking off this fantabulous week on the blog with the new Soleil Dress that I got to test for the lovely Lauren from Selvage Designs! There's even a coupon code for $2 off the pattern now through Sunday April 11!
Go to the bottom of the post for the code.
This dress is the absolute perfect dress for summer! It's a sleeveless knit dress that is so uber comfy, I totally want one for me. It also has a cutout back design feature that is completely adorable. Go here to see some more versions. For the test I made the closed back version.
I made the size 2, with no changes at all. It was a perfect fit. The pattern is designed to be slightly more fitted because of the open back feature, so that it doesn't gap. The closed back on my petite girly resulted in a super comfy fit. If I do the open back option, I will probably have to bring in the waist a little. But the way Lauren has designed this pattern, this will be an easy change to make! She has detailed measurements included in the pattern that allow you know exactly which sizes to use. It also has a layers option that allows you to choose to print ONLY the size you need! I LOVED that feature!
And can we just talk about those pockets!?! This is my favorite feature of this adorable dress. I mean, come on, how cute does she look with her little hands in there? Or maybe I'm just biased... ;)
This is a perfect pattern for those just beginning to sew with knits. The ribbing around the neck and arms is a super easy way to finish the edge and gives such a lovely professional looking finish.
She has already worn this dress and got dandelion pollen all over the front of her, boo for stains, but yay for using it for the exact purpose it was intended for :)
Imagine this is dandelion picking, lol. This girl cracks me up daily.
Some close up details of the dress.
It was a dream to sew. I already have 2 more in the plans. A girl can never have too many sundresses in her closet for the summer!
When choosing ribbing for edging, look for one that has good stretch recovery. Otherwise it will stretch out when you sew it on and will stay that way. This is a nice sturdy one that I found at Joann. The polka dots are a cotton spandex from Girl Charlee.
And now for a major photo overload because the girlie and I loved it so much :)
