TIP Top Dress & Tunic Pattern // Handmade Frenzy // Sewing For Girls

Happy Monday, all! I'm excited to be a part of the Petit A Petit Block Party today! All through the month of November, 31 fabulous bloggers from all over the world are showing off the patterns available in the Petit A Petit Pattern Shop. There is also a giveaway and coupon code good for the whole month. Scroll through to the end for the info!

I chose to sew up the TIP Top Dress & Tunic pattern for my stop around the block. It's one of those patterns that I have admired since the moment it was released. I'm so happy I finally got the chance/reason to sew it up!

My daughter's chest measurements fell between the 3/4 & 5/6 sizes. Since the pattern is meant to be quite loose fitting I decided to go with the 3/4 size in width and lengthened to 5/6. It's perfection!!

I chose to sew view C, with the separate front, back and side panels, faux welt pocket accents, hem facings and elasticized neck.

The only slight change I made to the pattern was to finish the sleeve hems with the same bias as used for the neckline instead of the rolled hem as suggested.

I absolutely adore the way the bias finish peeks out from the bottom of the flutter sleeves and reveals a pop of color!

I used the same wine color for all the inside facings. It's a Kona cotton that I picked up a long time ago at Mary Jo's, I'm sorry, I have no idea what the color is anymore! But now I'm thinking it's definitely time for another Mary Jo's trip...

I debated about using different color threads in my machine to match the inside and outside fabrics when sewing on my facings, but decided that the contrasting thread on the outside was a fun look! I'm really happy with the outcome.

The fabric for the dress is Robert Kaufman Carolina Gingham from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. I have wanted to sew something for Olivia in this fabric for.EVER. It did not disappoint! And neither does the selection at Raspberry Creek Fabrics!

This dress will be her Thanksgiving Day dress and is just holiday-ish enough to work all through the season, but not so much that she can't continue wearing it until it's outgrown. Another great thing about it is that, even though it is short sleeved, it can easily be layered and then be completely appropriate for warm weather as well. If you can't tell, I'm a huge fan of clothing that can work year round for my kids.

I asked her what her favorite thing about the dress was and she pulled up the hem and said "this purple inside it!"

  2. These boots are made for walking - and dancing around. It's freezing cold here (in Switzerland) - and your girl is wearing this beautiful summer dress. Can't decide what's better. That dress, these boots or the summer feeling? I would take all of it :D
