Handmade Summer Series Part 6: Appliqued Beach Cover-Ups (FREE templates!)

I was looking for some cute cover-ups for my kiddos to wear to the beach and couldn't find anything that I thought was "cute" and also within my price range. So I decided to make them some. Of course.

I found these t-shirts at Hobby Lobby for $2.49, that's regular price folks, doesn't get much better than that! The fabric I used for the appliques was just scraps, so very minimal cost involved there as well.

I liked how these shirts were "too big" on Olivia, it gave her more coverage on her arms. The ones I was finding at the stores didn't have long enough sleeves. I wanted that soft white skin covered and protected!

So do you want to make some for yourself (or I mean, your children)? Ok! I'm giving you the templates so you can!

Download them here and here. Print them "actual size" to make them the same size I used on my kiddos' shirts. *These are for personal use only*

Then, using fusible webbing and following the directions on the package, make some super cute shirts for your little ones!

I fused them on, then chose to do a straight stitch around the edges. I would definitely recommend doing some type of stitching around the edges for additional reinforcement. Otherwise when you wash them the edges could come loose, and we don't want all your work to go to waste! You can also do a zigzag or satin stitch around the edges, this would prevent fraying. I wanted the frayed look, so I just did a straight stitch.

This is how they look after a couple of washings.

Here they are being enjoyed on the beach!

Have fun!
