Kaleidoscope Top - KCW Day 5

KCW Day 5 - Kaleidoscope Top - Pattern by See Kate Sew

See Kate Sew patterns are my new fave... I purchased 3 of them in prep for KCW and boy they did NOT disappoint! I fell in love with the Kaleidoscope Top the minute I laid eyes on it. That was quite a while ago and I'm so glad I finally bought it and put it to good use. *BTW, this sews up SUPER fast! At 7am this morning this shirt was just a big piece of fabric. By 9:45am, I had the shirt completed, the 2 kids and myself all dressed, fed, blog photos taken, necessities gathered up for a playdate and out the door.*

I absolutely love the boxy shape on my little girl. Man, I wish I could get away with half the clothes she wears! Her wardrobe is way better than mine, I totally have closet envy, towards my 2 year old.

Not only did I fall in love with the pattern, I fell for the fabric Kate used on her model too. And the second I saw it on deep clearance at Girl Charlee I snatched up a good chunk for myself! What do you think, mommy/daughter matching sweatshirts? Too cheesy?? MaybeIdontcare

The only change I made to the pattern was to lengthen the hemline about 2" total. She lives in leggings so I prefer tunic length on most of her shirts. Once she's a bit older I can't wait to try the elastic waist option and pair it with jeans. I never thought I'd ever like 80's style, didn't like it in the 80's, but I am liking it a little bit these days :)

  1. Oh Heidi, I love it! I also have closet envy of my two year old. Funny how that goes... I have resolved to buy ZERO sewing patterns this year, but gosh I would love to get my hands on some of those See Kate Sew patterns...

  3. This is SO cute! Love the shape and the fabric. Is this type of fabric difficult to work with? I really want to work with more knits but they intimidate me so much.

    1. THANK you Alexis!! This fabric is very very easy to work with actually! It is sweatshirt fleece and there is very little stretch, which makes it super easy. Double knits and interlock knits are an awesome place to start! And using a stretch needle and a walking foot if you have one, although I didn't start with one... But it does make it a bit easier and keeps things from shifting.

    1. I felt like I was. :) It was so fun though! I wish I could keep sewing at that rate all the time, maybe I just need to hire a maid... haha. Olivia wants to wear it all the time because it's "so peetty & soft", I'm pretty sure I want one for me too!
