KCW - Day 3 & 4
Day 3 & 4 was spent sewing for my girl! For this outfit I used the Norah Dress & Tunic Pattern, The Ruffle Bolero and Fancy Pants Leggings.
First up are some obligatory cute kid photos. You gotta scroll through those to get to the deets :)
She was in a surprisingly cooperative, yet ornery mood. Made for some great photos :)
Girl's got skills.
Now for some outfit details:
Bolero: Ruffle Bolero Pattern by Heidi and Finn
Fabric: Outer - Knit from Joann // Lining - Kona Cotton
Tag: Made by me
Size sewn: 2t
Changes made: Lengthened sleeve and added a cuff.
This was my first time with this pattern, and I'm SURE it won't be my last!
The finished product looks so amazing and professional! The pattern is for wovens, but I was going for a bit more of a sweater look, plus I wanted something fairly neutral that I could pair with lots of dresses and tops, so I decided to use this interlock knit. It turned out so great, the lining is woven, I was hoping it would turn out ok and it turned out GREAT.
A tip when combining knits & wovens: cut the lining (if it's woven) just a teeny bit larger than the pattern, this will help accommodate the stretch of the knit. This worked perfectly for both the bolero and the dress.
I lengthened the pattern to 3/4 sleeve. I followed this tutorial for lengthening the pattern. I also used a cuff to finish it rather than hemming.
The bolero also has an optional closure with a loop & button. I added it, but actually prefer the open look better. But it's nice that it's there if we need the extra warmth!
Dress:
Pattern: Norah Dress & Tunic by Mouse House Creations (affiliate link)
Size sewn: 18mo
Fabric: Main - Double Knit from Fabric.com // Lining - Kona Cotton
Pattern Options used: No collar, sleeveless, dress length
Changes made: None, other than piecing the skirt because I eeked it out of a half yard of fabric :)
So if you ever wondered if you can get a Norah dress out of a half yard of fabric, well, you can! Just get creative with cutting and piecing! :) I really like the look it gives to the otherwise completely simple, straightforward dress. And can we talk about the flare of this skirt?
SO CUTE!
And last, but not least..
Leggings:
Pattern: Fancy Pants Leggings by Titchy Threads
Size Sewn: Waist - 12-18mo, width - 18-24mo, length - 18-24mo, rise - 2t (but I will use 18-24 next time)
Fabric: Crazy thin jersey knit from fabric.com
This pattern was great, came together well and a quick sew. I also love that you can customize so much size-wise so that the fit is just perfect. Can't say how well the fabric is going to hold up though... I've had it in my stash forever because it was not what I was expecting when it arrived. But that was when I first started dealing with knits and didn't really know what I was looking for.
Anyway, the leggings were a last minute decision for the outfit because I loved how it paired with the dress and bolero. But I'm not holding my breath that they'll last too long without a hole.
The back of the outfit.
And one last parting shot. Loved sewing this one up!!
Off to sew some more! Hopefully I'll be able to eek out a couple more things, but the household chores are creeping up all around me. Crazy crumb/sticky fingers/laundry/dishes/cooking attack...
Be back soon!
Adorable outfit and ditto girl!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I wish I could just "clear my schedule" and sew for a whole month, ha.
Deletesuper super cute!

DeleteCute all around- especially her!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! She makes me smile :)
Delete*ugh* The dreaded chores!!! Seriously… the coat is to die for. Way to go Heidi!
ReplyDeleteAH, I know! Thank you so much! It was my first attempt at a jacket of any sort, and I may be hooked...
DeleteThe whole outfit is amazing, but that jacket - oh boy, it is something super special!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Jenya! That makes me so happy! :)
DeleteThis whole outfit is just wonderful. And way to go with the piecing - it looks completely intentional - I never would have guessed it was out of necessity! And her photos...adorable doesn't begin to describe it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy! I'm happy too with the piecing, I think it breaks it up in a good way :) I can't tell you how thrilled I am with her photos, I will totally be framing a couple of them!
DeleteAbsolutely love this outfit - great tips on combining knits with wovens too, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! And you are welcome, love to pass on what I've learned :)
ReplyDeleteHeidi I love this outfit so much! That knit you used for the leggings is amazing, I hope they hold up for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura!! I've had to fix a hole in the crotch already :/ I think maybe interfacing the seams would have helped? I do have enough of that fabric left to make another pair, and I'll probably try that :) Love the pattern!!
