Lana Tops // The Lana Pattern Tour

Lana Top // Sewing For Women

Sometimes a pattern releases that I put on my never-ending to-sew list and for one reason or another, it stays in limbo and doesn't get sewn immediately. The Lana Top and Dress by Coffee + Thread was one of those patterns for me. I loved it at release earlier this year, and then was struck by adorableness when she also released the Lana Kids Top and Dress pattern!!

I'm so so so happy that Olga and Emi asked me to participate in the tour, because what better excuse to finally sew some Lana Tops!!

To add fuel to the Lana fire, Olga has just updated the patterns to include long sleeves!! Eek!! Now all my drop shoulder, ruffle sleeve tee dreams have come true.

I didn't have time to sew all the Lana's I have in my head for this post, but I am super thrilled with the two that I did sew!

Also, I'm a little bummed that timing and weather just didn't cooperate, and I wasn't able to get pics of me and my girl together, but hopefully you can get a good idea of both tops regardless! She went with me to the fabric store and I totally had a camo vibe going on that day, because I snatched up that bolt for myself in 2 seconds flat. *Even though I have never owned a piece of camo anything before in my life*

She started oohing and aahing over this lovely crushed velvet almost as soon as I saw the camo, and next to each other, they just made a perfect pairing!

Like I said, I've never owned camo anything before, ever. But something about the current trend has wiggled it's way into my subconscious and I thought the feminine pattern details, paired with the edgy print would work. I was so right. I'm in love with this new camo Lana!!

Both fabrics are from Hobby Lobby. My camo print is a lightweight french terry, with not much stretch.

I'm a little all over the size chart, my bust between a 6/8, and my hips between 4/6, but since my fabric didn't have a lot of stretch I cut a straight size 8. I also made a small fit modification at the waist. Although the waist is larger on the size 8 pattern chart than my physical waist, the curve of the pattern is pretty defined. Since my fabric doesn't have much stretch and my tummy is an area I'd rather not highlight, I straightened out the side seams a bit, giving me about an inch more room in that area.

I love the fit of this shirt! It's fitted, but not too fitted, just right! I also adjusted the hems slightly. I hemmed the sleeves only 1/4", and the bottom by 5/8". I'm quite happy with the length on me, but if you're taller, you may want to add some length in the bodice. I am 5'3", for reference.

For Miss O's shirt, I also made a couple fit mods. According to the size chart, I should have cut a 7/8 in the chest and a 5/6 in the hips. But she also recommends to compare the pattern to a shirt that fits well and use that to determine which size to cut. I did that and settled on cutting a 6 at the top, graded to an 8 at the hip. I also lengthened the hem of the size 8 by 3/4" and curved the hem slightly, back up to the original size 8 at the side seams. The fit turned out perfect!

Since her fabric is stretch velvet and doesn't fray, I left the sleeves unhemmed. I hemmed the bottom 1 inch.

The kids version of the pattern includes 2 dress options as well as the basic tee. Make sure to check out the hashtags #lanakids and #thelanapatterntour for absolutely adorable inspiration!!

We are definitely crushing over our new Lana Tops and there will certainly be more versions in our future! I absolutely can't wait to try out the long sleeves with the ruffle!
