Hi-Low Bimaa!

Modified Bimaa Sweater

I'm not sure what I can say about Sarah from EmmyLouBeeDoo's Bimaa pattern that hasn't already been said. It is a MUST. HAVE. for your pattern stash. It works for both girl and boy. The pattern fits together so well, and is a super fast sew. Which is always good when you have toddlers running around and needing you every so often for everything imaginable under the sun. And when they're not needing you, you start to wonder just what on earth they are up to...

See? That face has "trouble" written all over it :)

This is the second sweater I've made using the Bimaa pattern. (See the first version here) Both times I actually upcycled using either thrifted or our own discarded clothes. I haven't sewn the pattern completely as written yet either... Guess another Bimaa is in my kiddos' future :)

But sometimes I just get an image in my head and I can't move past it until it's sewn up! The idea first sparked when I saw this pin. I just HAD to make a little hi-low top for Miss O and the scarf in the inspiration photo just immediately made me think of the Bimaa.

For this version I upcycled an old tee of mine for the main body. The sleeves are leftover fabric from this dress. The cowl is rayon challis that I've been hoarding forever and I thought it would look absolutely adorable on this top!

I wasn't sure how the rayon challis would work since it's not very stretchy, but I remedied that by cutting it on the bias and there is PLENTY of room to get it over her head. In fact the neck is pretty huge on her. I had to pin the cowl together in the front just a little for this shoot, but for normal wear I will probably wear a little tank or tee under it.

I drafted a little hi-low hem and added an inch to the width on the back panel of the shirt. I then sewed a pleat at the center back of the neckline to bring it in to fit the cowl. I am really happy with how that turned out. I love the little added detail of the pleat at the top.

Since the hem is not cuffed, I decided to skip the cuffed sleeves as well and cropped them just a bit before hemming.

  3. Both your daughter and the scarf are very pretty! I love that type of scarves - I am aiming to do a scarf like that for my daughters too, I just have to find a nice fabric first.

  4. This is adorable- I saw it on IG and kept meaning to come over to your blog... I am a bit floral obsessed lately, so I am totally digging that cowl! It's just perfect and I want to make the exact same one for my kiddo. :)
