French Terry Nessie Top // Sewing for Girls

French Terry Nessie Top: Sewn by Handmade Frenzy

I made this fun little Nessie Top Sweatshirt for my little valentine back in February.

This shirt came about because when you let fabrics linger in your stash, they eventually become friends and start hanging out together. At least that's how my fabrics like to socialize. Oh, yours too? ;)

The green is a french terry and the heart is quilting cotton that I appliqued to the front.

This is the second shirt I made with these french terry's from Joann's, and used them for the neckband on both. I don't know if it's just the nature of this particular french terry or if they all do this, but when using it as a neckband they stay stretched out and don't do much for pulling up the neckline. So we're just calling them sweatshirts! Constantly learning with all these different types of fabrics...

I made a straight size 4 for my little miss, her measurements put her there and the fit is really good. I plan to make another in a cotton/lycra, I'm expecting the fit to also be good in that, although different than this french terry.

The sleeves were plenty long, (she mentions in the pattern that they are drafted long) so instead of cutting off the excess, I cuffed it to the outside so the loopy side of the french terry is visible. A fun little texture detail.

The heart is the heart applique pattern from the Megan Nielsen Mini Briar Top. That reminds me that I still need to blog the top I made when I tested! Wow, I'm so behind. But thus is the story of my life :)

Happy Friday!!

  1. So cute! I love the addition of the heart. And haha - that totally happens with my fabrics! In fact, I think they get so friendly that they start multiplying without my knowledge. (At least, that's the story I'm sticking with when my husband questions me.)
