Have you been following along with the Summer Swimwear Tour this past week? Well, today is the last day and I'm sharing another version of the ever so adorable Classic Maillot, view E mashed with G, and H.

When I was asked to be a part of the tour, I just had to say yes, because I had yet to sew a swim suit for my girl this year, and it was just the push I needed to do it. And since this pattern included such an adorable tankini version, I knew immediately that was the one for us. She only does tankinis these days for bathroom reasons. One pieces frustrate her to the point of tears, trying to get them back on while wet.

This fabric was a pair that I purchased from the Fabric Fairy 2 years ago and had yet to use. Imagine Gnats graciously sponsored the tour participants with fabric if they chose to do so, and trust me I was tempted, but decided to be good and use what was already in my stash ;) It was a good decision because my purple loving princess was totally thrilled. And I must say, the combo turned out just as good as I was picturing in my head!

Her measurements placed her in a size 3 width wise, and a 4 in length. There are super handy adjustment lines included in the pattern for this so this adjustment is a breeze to make.

I didn't make any changes to the pattern except to make sure the elastic was fitting well as I went along, shortening some, and lengthening some. (Only by a about a 1/2" most of the time) The only goof I made with that was making the lower chest elastic just a tad too short I think. I actually made it a little longer than the cutting guide suggested. I wrapped the piece around her before sewing it on to the fabric and it seemed ok, but then after sewing it to the fabric it added bulk and feels "just right". I'm hoping it'll still fit next year, but we'll just have to see!

Just a tip to check the elastic as you go, if possible! I'm not sure why it looks like the straps are a little loose in the picture below, because they really aren't!

Oh! I guess I did make one other change to the pattern. I didn't line the lower part of the tankini. I didn't think it seemed necessary, and from personal experience I think it sometimes makes them too hot. That being said, I ran out of my regular white swimsuit lining while cutting out the pattern, grumbled a while, and then remembered I had a small piece of nude power mesh from Imagine Gnats Shop! So I made it work and the bottoms are lined with white swim lining in the front and nude power mesh in the back. All that to say, the power mesh is definitely lighter and would work well for lining in the case where you want a lining but not a lot of extra bulk or warmth!

This was my first swim suit made with my serger. OHMIGOODNESS. It's love. Serging on the elastic and using my largest twin stretch needle (size 4), yielded the best finish I've ever done on a swimsuit! It's ok to pat yourself on the back for something like this, right??

She was excited about the twirl factor, and had to see if it made her look like a ballerina :) But, swoon. That back! It's love!

Then, for the most exciting part... Testing it out!

Thumbs up!! Everything stayed in place through many cannon balls and flips in the water, even some roughhousing with the brother and nothing moved. Trust me, this is a big deal. She is NOT a fan of swimwear that scooches out of place ;)

We are fans of the Classic Maillot, and it won't be her only one, that's for sure! The pattern goes up to size 12, so she can have MANY more in her future, yay!!
