Play Food: Tea Bags

Do you need a quick handmade Christmas present project yet before the big day? And better yet, a project that uses up scraps only?

You still have time to whip up a few of these adorable tea bags and have yourself a tea party on Christmas morning!

What little girl, (or boy) wouldn't love making tea for the whole family with these super cute "tea bags"?!?

Here's a quick how-to!

For the tea bag - cut 2 - 3"x3" squares and cut off  1" of the top corners as shown.

For the tab, cut 2 - 2"x2" squares.

For the string, cut a 4" piece of yarn. Sandwich the yarn between the tea bag pieces as shown, leaving a bit of a tail at the top.

Sew around, using a 1/2" seam allowance, leaving a small opening for turning. Be sure to reinforce well over the yarn. Trim the corners.

Turn the tea bag right side out. Place the tab pieces as shown, with the yarn sandwiched between and again, leaving a tail at the top.

Sew, using a 1/2" seam allowance. Reinforce over the yarn. Trim corners.

Turn the tab right side out, tuck in open ends and topstitch all around.

Next, take a small amount of fiber-fill and stuff in the opening left in the tea bag.

Close the opening by topstitching all around. And voila! A tea bag!

I used these as a fun little gift in the kids' advent calendar. They were totally thrilled and we all had a tea party before bedtime :)

Happy Sewing!!
